  • Fluff Piece: Big Catch-phrase: Player's Slogan Sweeps Through Marlins Camp

    JUPITER Lo viste?

When Miami Marlins outfielder Emilio Bonifacio holds a sideways 'V' with his index and middle fingers to his eye he is asking that question.

    Lo viste? See that?

Last season during his 26-game hitting streak, Bonifacio and teammate Omar Infante devised the Spanish catchphrase and hand gesture. The speedy Bonifacio began using it after a hit or a good play – and it took hold.

When Bonifacio returned to his native Dominican Republic last offseason, his family and friends strung a banner across two buildings with his likeness and the headline, "Lo Viste!!!"

"They knew what I was doing," Bonifacio said of his countrymen. "When I got there people would jokingly ask, 'Lo viste, lo viste?' Everybody."

This season, lo viste has caught on in a big way at Marlins spring training camp.

Bonifacio's Marlins teammates, including superstar free agent shortstop Jose Reyes, love it.

So does Martha Stewart apparently, who was photographed last weeked doing the lo viste sign with players, owner Jeffrey Loria and his wife, Julie, during the Diamond Dish Dinner at Marlins Park.

"Every team has something," first baseman Gaby Sanchez said. "That might just be ours."

The Marlins use Spanish in return for not knowing what mbitcronod12 means.

It's weird that you create these long names that have no meaning to everyone, don't want to share the meaning and then advertise the long name thingy to everyone.

They have meaning to me. If they don't have any meaning to you, why do you care what they mean?

I do find it odd to have a really long acronym as your username, let alone the fact no one besides her knows what it actually stands for.

There is someone active on the board that knows what it means.
