  • SoFlaMarlins All-Time Florida Marlins Team

As we get ready to close the Florida Marlins era on 11/11/11, SoFlaMarlins would like to honor the franchise that brought us two championships through a walk down the memory lane. Over 19 seasons of contests, there are players, games, and individual moments that speak to our communal experience as fans both positively and negatively. From the highs of Edgar Renteria's single up the middle to the lows of sending Dontrelle out for the ninth to win the Cy Young, we've built a lifetime of memories draped in the pageantry of teal and black.

As our first step in this series, we will be selecting an All-Time Marlins team, position by position. In order to be as complete as possible, this team will be chosen by realistic means - we'll be selecting outfielders by position and relief pitchers by roles. Our goal is to fill out the best realistic 25 man roster we could put out on the field.

Shortly, I'll be posting the first thread - Catcher. Stats will be posted corresponding to their time with the Marlins, but you are free to vote on whatever guidelines you see fit. Players chosen were selected based on their overall time playing the position and their impact at it during their time with the franchise. You are allowed to vote for a player not nominated; merely post the player's name and it'll count towards his total.

Each voting thread will last seven days. Debate away!

    First Baseman: Derrek Lee
    Second Baseman: Luis Castillo*

    Center Field: Juan Pierre

    *- unanimous choice

God would be expecting a first pitch breaking ball in the dirt because humans love to disappoint him.

Does this mean we will be voting on the best 5th starter not just the 5 best starters and the best mop up guy and such?

I think voting on the best fifth starter is silly.

No, because starters all have the same capacity. Relief pitchers do not.

But that is how the bullpen will work. One closer, setup guy, middle relief, long guy?

Especially if you take away the HR's he's allowed.
