I don't even understand how that could even make a little bit of sense at all.
So if we make their contracts even, it would make sense for us to trade for the significantly worse pitcher?
I'm going to assume part of your post got cut off. There has to be more to this.
Assuming the Marlins don't take on money above their Nolasco commitment, the Yankees have a 2-year commitment rather than a 3-year commitment. The Yankees get the more "consistent" of the two, the Marlins get the substantially higher upside.
Unless I'm mistaken, the money the Yanks would pay out to the Marlins doesn't hit their luxury tax number either.
It's the kind of trade the Marlins should make, but the Yankees probably wouldn't (I wouldn't pay to take the lower ceilinged player).

Do the Marlins get something on top of AJ Burnett and cash? I don't see how, salaries being equal, that makes any sense. Ok, it's a shorter commitment. That's great. But AJ Burnett is going to be 35 next year. What reason is there to say he has upside?
At best, it's a wash on the field. The Marlins should be aiming a lot higher than AJ Burnett.
Again, everyone talking about the douche thing is severely understanding how these things work. The douche also has to be better than the other douches on the team, or the other douches on the team will have no douche to listen to and they will all not care and be a bunch of current season Hanley's. However, the new douche, no matter how douchey, cannot succeed unless he there are other douches on the team so that he can look up to those douches and follow in the footdouches.
It's a horrible cycle that some sort of Big Z created.
Yankees will be the 1st call we make however Nova will be off the table. The deal we will be looking at would be- Austin Romine and pitching prospects for him
