I think if you bring back the same exact bullpen and the same exact offense, there would be more concern about the bullpen next offseason than the offense.

I think our offense will improve significantly next year simply with our very own players coming back (not to mention the addition of one more bat).

Adding a proven, backend reliever would be nice because I expect all of our relievers to either remain the same or regress. While I like him, Cishek more than likely is not a K/9 guy. As spectacular as Mujica was for us last year, I'm still worried that he reverts back to double-digit HR allowed guy. Dunn has extreme control issues/flyball tendencies. Webb is very hittable and not someone I want to rely on in the late innings, personally.

    • Nobody in the bullpen could improve based on experience and skill?

I just described their skillset, no?

        • So everyone is who they were forever if they are relievers.

I could say the same thing for the starting pitching if you want to play this game. Unless if you're just simply trying to say that relievers are volatile.

            • Hitch your wagon to Brad Hand and Chris Volstad if you want.

Well, I mean, everyone is not who they were forever. I guess that's the philosophy heading into the offseason with the bullpen, so why not with the rest of the team, amirite?

                • Why do so many of you want Edwin Jackson so bad? The guy is not that great, and btw the BAA Edwin this season, .290, Whip: 1.44. Those are worse than Volstad numbers.

Does anyone have what our payroll would look like if we gave Pujols 26/yr and Buehrle 12/yr?

Nevermind, I just saw one that estimates to be around 60ish million.

I'm almost positive you're just doing this to be a turd, because there's no way you can honestly think it.

                    • To all the "we need a SP more than a CF" I agree, but we need to spend money smart. 5 or 6 years for CJ Wilson or $100 million for Yu Darvish (if he even is posted) is not smart. The best way to spend our money "smartly" is on the position players. Whether or not we "need" Pujols, he's a lot smarter of an investment. We don't have the prospects to trade for a true #1/2 (which we need and what Wilson isn't) like Felix or Gio. We probably shouldn't bring in Oswalt and the 3 years he's going to want. Our best SP bets are Zambrano and some kind of reclamation project - Jaime Moyer? - and those aren't going to cost us a ton of our expected off-season outlay.

                      • I see why signing him might not be the best option, but I don't see how CJ Wilson isn't a 'true #1/2."

                        • I think it's very hard to form an incredibly favorable opinion about someone who only has two big league seasons as a starter and will turn 31 next season.

Don't get me wrong, I like him a lot, but I don't really want him for 6 years at $15 million per.

                          • Not wanting him for 6/$90 is not the same as thinking he's not a #1/2 pitcher. He's clearly been a #1 pitcher over his 2 years as a starter at the big league level.

                              C'mon, you're better than that.

He put up a 3.55 FIP last season, which is pretty good considering he played half the year at U.S. Cellular. The last 3 seasons he's pitched 200 IP and had a WAR of 3.6, 3.8, 3.8.

Don't compare him to Volstad. Volstad can't sniff his jock.

                              • Volstad probably could sniff his jock if they're in the same locker room and Edwin is in the shower and the clubhouse manager hasn't come around to pick up dirty laundry yet.
