    • i dont know about you guys but that offseason plan of signing zambrano and Buehrle isent that good. i mean it would be a good rotation but not one of the best and that offence would be horrible. i dont want domminguez couglan and bonifacio filling those holes at CF and 3B

Not that unreasonable to think they could be a middle of the pack offense and live and die on the health of the SP, which is how it's going to be no matter who is batting for the team.
thats alot of "ifs" dont you agree

                • Maybe he's from Canada. And Lou's roster is likely not a playoff team, or really even close to one. That is not a dominant rotation even if JJ is healthy all season. The lineup, if everybody hits to their full potential, is nothing special. I'm all for stabilizing the rotation, but the odds that Nolasco, JJ, and Zambrano all have good seasons next year are probably very low (JJ due to health, not skill obviously). If we do end up bringing aboard Buehrle/Zambrano, I think the smart thing to due at that point is deal Nolasco and either get back a guy you can put in the lineup everyday, or use the money you save from dumping Nolasco to sign a guy.

                  • If you deal Nolasco and say, replace with Aramis Ramirez and cheap 5th starter (article suggest Freddy Garcia, Bartolo Colon, Paul Maholm) they money "kind of" lines up to be in the mid 80s range.

A lot of options this offseason. Really hasn't been like this since Carlos Delgado days.

I think bringing in Buehrle/Z + dealing Nolasco and signing Maholm (would be my choice of those 3) in order to have more money for an Aramis Ramirez would qualify as a pretty good offseason.

Barring significant injuries, I think such a team is capable of competing for the playoffs.

                      • Ozzie Guillen and Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano reportedly spoke on the phone and discussed the possibility of the hurler joining the Marlins. A source says that nothing is official but a deal could be reached where the Cubs cut the 30-year-old loose and give him the $18MM that he is owed in deferred payments.
                        Wouldn't have to trade anyone.

I think that would be an incredible offseason. If they can get Buerhle for $12, Aramis for $10, someone like Maholm, F. Garcia (or dare I say, keep Volstad, who did have a real nice Aug/Sep with a 54.1 IP., 3.50 era, 1.25 whip, 7.1 K/9, quality starts 7/9) for around $2-3, get Zambrano for literally nothing, and bring in one more legit bench guy for relatively cheap, huge win.

That's easily sub $90. Would love that team.

                            • Yeah. If everyone hits to their potential, you're talking about

                              C - .775 OPS
                              1B - .800 OPS
                              2B - .750 OPS
                              SS - .950 OPS
                              3B - ??????
                              LF - .900 OPS
                              CF - .750 OPS
                              RF - .950 OPS

Now, I certainly don't expect all of them to hit to their potentials for a variety of reasons, but those are all basically the ceilings of our players.

                              • I am not at all impressed with the offense lou posted. We are talking about the second worst offense in franchise history in 2010 and we're going to add Matt Dominguez into the picture? Boner is unlikely to have another season like that. Gaby is a question mark after that second half and Hanley is coming off shoulder surgery. Bringing in a legitimate bat has to be a HUGE priority this offseason.
