  • I don't see anything wrong with going after Grady Sizemore and getting him if the price is right. We still have to be able to find value in free agency, and he's worth the risk.

I don't see what Joey Gathright has to do with anything.

They should get some credit for those moves. Those guys had way less pedigree then Grady and McLouth, who 3 years ago were pretty much considered franchise players. And it's not like I have forgotten about Abercrombie, Borchard, and all of those winners too. Not that this is a FO discussion, but we can't make jokes? That's totally what the front office does. Sign half the minor league invites who any MLB experience, and one or two works out so they look "ok" coming out of it. Now that we have payroll, let's do it to the $3-5 1 year deal crowd!

        • I guess I just don't see it as funny. And I don't see why attempting to go after high upside injury risks is a funny thing for a middle of the road payroll team to do. Carry on, I guess.

Like, I guess if they were going to say "We'll either sign Nate McClouth and Grady Sizemore OR Albert Pujols," I could see how it would be funny. But this team still needs to buy low at certain positions and hope it works out.

Especially because $28.5 million next year is tied up in JJ, Ricky, and Hanley, none of whom are sure fire bets to be elite performers for a variety of reasons. Even with adding $20 million in payroll, this team will need a few things to go right, no matter what path they take. Why is it laughable to consider Grady Sizemore, but not Carlos Zambrano, who you have talked about as a potentially good move to make?

            • Gaby and Omar might get a Gold Glove tomorrow. Both guys are in the running for a Gold Glove, winners will be announced tomorrow.

                    • Just for fun, MLBTR has predicted where the top 50 free agents will go. Here's who they have the Marlins getting:

                      6. Edwin Jackson - Marlins. Jackson, a Scott Boras client, could also make sense for the Nationals and several other teams looking for a 200-inning starter with upside. Since Jackson is only 28, Boras could seek a four-year deal.

                      17. Francisco Rodriguez - Marlins. K-Rod, a Scott Boras client, would like to return to the closing role on a three-year deal. The Marlins would have the opening and the money, if they non-tender Juan Carlos Oviedo.

                      26. Grady Sizemore - Marlins. Sizemore is a classic risk/reward case, and the Marlins don't seem interested in playing it safe this winter.
                      LHP Chad James-Jupiter Hammerheads-

                      5-15 3.80 ERA (27 starts) 149.1IP 173H 63ER 51BB 124K

                      • Don't worry, they have Pujols as their #51 FA

                        • I don't want K-Rod anywhere near here.

                          • If you take away the amount of years those guys want, I'd take both of them.

I'm not a big fan of Sizemore, but as I already mentioned, that would not be surprising at all. Ozzie Guillen is a big fan of his game.

This team needs SP a lot more than an OF.
