Wednesday morning, Major League Baseball revealed its full schedule for the 2012 regular season. We'll hit a few of the highlights here, but keep in mind breaking down a full 162-game slate is a bit different than, say, 16 games (yeah, you understand).

    • The newly-named Miami Marlins will open their own -- finally baseball-only -- ballpark on April 4 against the Cardinals. It will be the first game of the season and the only game played on that day (a Wednesday). April 5, a Thursday, there are six games. April 6 has 10 games and then finally there's a full slate of games on Saturday, April 7. This isn't anything close to how things have been done in recent years, but everything will be normal by the end of the week.

They play the Mets the weekend of my birthday. That should be fun. I hope I can get some tickets for the game.

I'll either fly down for opening day or home for the series in Cincinnati.

I will be there as well!

A May series is unusual. Usually, the Marlins come to Houston in either early April or September.

It's in April 13-15 I'm talking about going to Miami.

I don't think people realize how difficult it will be to get a ticket to Opening Day

As of two hours ago, I don't have to worry about that.

No first-game distinctionSo much for the distinction of playing the first game in the majors next season. The Marlins’ April 4 game against the Cardinals — the inaugural game in their new ballpark — won’t be the first in the majors. That honor will fall to the Oakland A’s and Seattle Mariners, who will get the ball rolling on March 28 and 29 in Japan.

The trick is on those Japanesers: They get the worst conceivable games baseball could think up
