  • Speculation: All Aboard the Pujols Express, From Fringe to Mainstream

There are rumblings that the Florida Marlins, who move into a new stadium in 2012 and may be looking to make a splash, will be a big player in the Pujols-Fielder sweepstakes.

      You forgot to mention this:

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Cardinals offered Albert Pujols a nine-year contract extension worth about $195 million last offseason.
SI.com's Jon Heyman reported the figure to be around $210 million. Either way, Pujols and his agent rejected the offer, reportedly seeking something worth over $23 million annually. Baseball's best hitter is headed to the free agent market this winter and is likely to draw major bids from multiple clubs.

Spending 23mil a season on one player who in 9yrs will be 40! How much longer really is he going to put up this kind of production? I would give him a 4 or 5yr deal max.

Plus Pujols getting paid that much would piss off Hanley.

Since when did Hanley Ramirez become Dan Uggla? There is absolutely zero indication it would matter.

Hanley plays better when he is pissed off anyways.

That's a lot of money dedicated to one position. Pujols would be great, but do you think he will be producing at the same rate from age 36-40? There's a lot of things that have to come into perspective.

I wouldn't even think about Fielder.

                  give Pujols a blank check.

Pujols' contract himself would eat up about a quarter of our payroll by himself. Heck, Pujols, Hanley and JJ's contracts would be about what our current payroll is now.

Then again a guy like Pujols only comes around once every blue moon.

I would assume in this case we would trade Gaby.

I think Pujols would take a super discount to come here and enjoy the beaches on off days.
