I just always liked the idea of a sac bunt. Having played baseball for quite a long time, I've just seen enough situations where it seems like teams tend to accomplish a run more often after a sacrifice than trying for a hit. Stats probably prove that wrong, but that's just been an objective opinion of mine (and the majority of managers). Old school mentality? Sure. But if it works, it's way easier to score a run after one.

I understand where you're coming from if you played ball. I definitely dislike the sac bunt, but as a coach, I bunt early and often. The defenders at our level aren't any where near as good as the guys at the MLB and there's a much much higher chance of the batter beating it our or getting on with an error. Bunting at the high school level is an extremely effective way to pressure the defense. At the collegiate and professional level, you're just giving away outs.
