Went 54-108 once. I would guess this team has at least 22 more wins in them.
If they fired Beinfest over this, they're idiots.

Which is true.
But, I don't see how you can fire the gm cause his team sucks when his ace is hurt and his best player inexplicably turned into Nick Punto. It's oversimplifying things, but if we had JJ and Hanley was being Hanley, none of this would be happening.
I'm not saying this team isn't flawed, but man there's maybe 3 teams in the league who could lose 2 players of that caliber (might as well say we lost Hanley) and still contend.

A fan who understands the game might see it as an inexplicable anamoly.
An owner who runs the team and has to appeal to casual fans would probably overreact to such a situation. Especially when the owner has a reputation of pocketing money and not really caring about the franchise.
At the end of the day, Jack McKeon is now the third manager this team has had in less than two years.
Sooner or later, the owner will probably start looking at the guys who actually put the team together.
And really, I personally like this front office.
But honestly, the only move this front office made this offseason that has worked was the Randy Choate move. That's it.
Considering the fact that Loria's goals this offseason were to greatly improve the bullpen, he is probably disappointed.
He's also said numerous times that he thinks this is a playoff team, which makes him look like a tool to the public.
I'm just trying to look at it from the owner's perspective.
Not to mention that Loria's proven in the past to be somewhat Steinbrenner-esque.

Mujica and Webb for Maybin
Infante and Dunn for Uggla
Coghlan playing a decent CF.
All of those have worked well enough to be relevant.

-Cameron Maybin is more valuable than Ryan Webb and Edward Mujica combined
-The Uggla deal is a win, financially. In terms of the production it's bought to the team, Loria is probably very disappointed. Mike Dunn has been terrible. Omar Infante's situational hitting (which was what was talked about at the time of the deal) has been a disappointment. (it evens out with Infante at least because he's been awesome, defensively) The rest of the money was used to sign Buck/Vazquez; Buck has been an overpaid upgrade, and Vazquez has been the worst.
-Coghlan's been a disappointment, which only makes the Maybin deal look even worse, at this point. (Maybin has actually outplayed Coghlan this year)Last edited by Erick; 06-21-2011, 01:06 AM.
