    Edwin's statement:

“This morning I offered my resignation to Larry Beinfest and the Marlins, and they accepted. I am grateful for the opportunity the Marlins gave me to manage at this level. It was a very hard decision for me to make, with the positive way the organization is moving; a new ballpark next season and the young core of players that this team has. I can’t say enough about the effort that this staff
and these players have put into this season. I could tell that they continued to give 100% effort each and every day on the field. I wish this organization, staff and players nothing but success in their futures.”

He fell on his sword. Kind of honorable, actually. Something obviously needs to be done when your team is 1-17 for June and changing the leadership in the clubhouse is the safest route to take.

I echo what the others were saying about him finding another team to manage. I liked him a lot and never thought that he was doing anything that was causing this disaster. Just seems like our collective flaws are being exposed at the same time.

Not that I think they should really, but it surprises me that Larry Beinfest and Mike Hill haven't been fired, considering Loria's career boldness.

I'm listening to Dave Van Horne and Glen Geffner and they said that from everything they heard, Edwin was not in danger of being fired. They also talked to Rays manager Joe Madden and he said that he thought Edwin was doing a good job and that the free fall was not his fault. Nothing really new but it's just more voices saying the same thing.

It is gonna be an interim for the rest of the year(Hyde,McKeon,Porter,Cora have been talked about) with either Ozzie or Bobby V as the pick after the season

I vote Jack to Ozzie, fully realizing how little my vote means

                I don't want Ozzie here.

JCRMarlinsbeat: Good chance #Marlins stay in org for interim mgr. Class-A Jupiter mgr Ron Hassey, infield coordinator Tim Leiper will likely be discussed.

For that, just stay with Hyde.

Give me trader Jack, he's in the organization and he would actually excite fans.

I think this is a very smart move for Edwin as he looks down the road at his prospects next season. By resigning now, he gets to stay away from a lot of the blame for the debacle among people around baseball. Also, he made the face-saving move and GMs really like when the manager has a history of playing ball and not ruffling any feathers. Edwin gets to look like the company man who fell on the sword for the good of the organization.

This is all the more useful considering that Edwin had to know that he wasn't going to be the manager of this team next season either way. He's better off leaving now before his managing abilities can get questioned if the team continued to perform poorly.

Plus, if a new manager comes in and continues to get nothing from this team, he'll look even better.

I'll be back later to get more into it but I like Edwin's preemptive strike here.

IMO, no matter how much the FO says his job wasn't in jeopardy, it sure as hell was.

But hopefully Edwin doesn't have aspirations of managing a big league team because this resignation won't look good on a resume.

We should go with Wes Helms, because she will be the first female manager in MLB history. That way no one focuses on the losing.
