You're thinking about this from the wrong angle. It's not that they would want to trade him, it's if someone becomes insane at the deadline and offers a Jesus Montero, Colby Rasmus, or Jason Kipnis for him, you make that deal before the other side changes their mind. You're in better shape with a super premium position prospect than a pitcher signed for over $15 million next two seasons who has had a major arm surgery, and is not exactly consistent. Especially when, you can use said money and just pump that right into free agency.

It just depends on whose offered.

Rasmus is great and there is word around St.Louis that they are looking to trade him (again).

Wonder if you offer Leo (I believe Cards need a closer?) and Nolasco, what you would get in return.

What do you do with Cogz? Trade him somewhere as well? His trade value can't be too high.
