  • Elih Villanueva to Start Game 1 of Doubleheader UPDATE: Jose Ceda and Lopez Coming Up

    Official word

Triple-A New Orleans right-hander Elih Villanueva will join the Marlins Tuesday night in Philadelphia and start the front end of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

A product of Florida State and Miami native, Villanueva was 4-5 with a 5.23 ERA with 28 walks and 47 strikeouts in 13 starts (72 1/3 innings) for the Zephyrs. He’s also allowed 14 home runs, tied for fifth most in the Pacific Coast League. His 1.65 WHIP ranks 50th out of 56 PCL qualifying pitchers, but Villanueva over his last three starts can boast a 1.93 ERA and is coming off six shutout innings against Memphis.

The Marlins have not officially announced the move yet. They have to make corresponding transactions to accommodate Villanueva on the 25-man and 40-man rosters. One 40-man option is to place Josh Johnson on the 60-day disabled list.

If JJ is put on the 60 day DL is it retroactive to when he was originally not playing?

I thought it was for Bucklin but really for me (but kinda mostly for Bucklin but in a way secretly for me, but not so secretly, but not for me to respond to).

Somewhere in Korea, Chewie is just wondering if he ever beat Florida.

He was the winning pitcher in the game that knocked UF out of the 08 NCAA tourney

He beat Florida and knows Festa's family. He must be good.
