There are a ton of pitchers who peaked before they turned 26. Racking up a ton of pitches + innings when you're young can cause a snowball effect on your health and effectiveness down the road.

It's why Carlos Rodon's workload as an amateur worries me.

The Marlins appear to be playing it safe with Fernandez, and it sounds like he didn't really start pitched until much later than most players. So he could be fine.
