joecapMARLINS: #Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez said he hopes Josh Johnson will make his next start on June 1 in Arizona.

Assuming JJ does start on the first, that would mean skipping a Vazquez start because Vazquez is lined up to start the first after Monday's off day.

JJ missing a couple starts is not the end of the world. I'm excited to see what this Buente feller can do. Perhaps he can be a suitable replacement for Javquez.

I want to be optimistic but I mean they took him off the 40 once already for a reason. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong.

Do you think there is any way Samson can sweet talk someone into putting the season on hold for about two weeks? That would help us big time.

If he's really only hurt for two weeks, it's no big deal.

Wow, dunno why I put that. I guess I don't like him enough to put his real name. Oh well.

Notes from Buster Olney's insider article on JJ's injury.

Josh Johnson landed on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation, a terrible sign. As the folks in Stats and Info noted: "With Johnson hitting the DL with shoulder inflammation, it's worth noting that his fastball averaged just 91.5 MPH during his last start against the Mets, the slowest it's been in any of his starts in the last three seasons. With his velocity down, Johnson threw just 38 fastballs among his 85 pitches (47 percent), the lowest rate he's thrown in the last three seasons."

Josh Johnson played catch today for about five minutes at 60 feet. He said it went well and he felt good.

Still no word yet on if he’ll pitch June 1, but it sounds like the team is leaning toward having him miss two more starts and return during the next home stand at the earliest.

Johnson will play catch again tomorrow and then ramp up to long tossing and then a bullpen session.

But in order to be ready to start June 1, he said he’d have to throw a bullpen session “pretty quick. We’ll see how it reacts in the next couple of days and well know more by then.”

The Marlins don’t sound like they want to rush him back.

“Not only are we looking for him to be painless, We’re looking for him to be strong,” manager Edwin Rodriguez said.

“If we want him to pitch June 1st, he’s going to pitch only one bullpen. If we want him a little bit later its going to be two bullpens.

“The main reason we shut him down, we want to make sure he’s going to be fine for the rest of the season. Now that he’s down we want to make sure when he comes out hes 100 percent and no more setbacks.”

Johnson said he won’t take long to be ready. But he also said he and the coaching staff want to make sure JJ has proper extension in his mechanics.

“If I’m not getting that, then I’m not gonna go off the mound.”

Still no word yet on a starter for this Saturday.

With the off day June 2nd, we can just skip JJ's start and run the other four starters on regular rest. We wouldn't need another starter until June 7th.
