In the game thread, somebody mentioned Wes Helms being a real pro or something to that effect....that always reminds me of Arrested Development and lawyer Wayne Jarvis...."the guy's a pro."

Oh, and good win not only for the Marlins, but for Sean West- I think he needed a confidence boost, and he got it, especially with the zero walks.

It was huge to get that kind of a start from West. Still not a lot of K's, but it's great to see the 0 BB from him. It seemed like this time out he was really working on staying under control with his mechanics and not overthrowing. And it paid off.

                Clearly, West heard Anibal's foot-steps.

I hope we do the right thing and give out a rotation spot based on merit, and nothing but, when Anibal comes back.

MIAMI -- You can say the Marlins are hitting their stride.

Jorge Cantu and Ronny Paulino homered on Thursday, but the biggest boost the team received was from their 6-foot-8 rookie left-handed starter.

Sean West limited the Astros to one run in six innings, and the Marlins used a 11-hit attack to cruise to a 9-2 win at Land Shark Stadium.

The Marlins extended their franchise record of posting at least 10 hits to 10 consecutive games. Hanley Ramirez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, pushing his hitting streak to nine, and Chris Coghlan has now hit safely in 12 straight.

Florida rebounded from a 14-6 loss on Wednesday night to take three of four from Houston.

The Marlins broke open the game with six runs in the sixth inning off reliever Chris Sampson, slapping out five singles and sending 10 to the plate. Coghlan had an RBI hit, and Ramirez drove in two with a single.

Cantu's two-run homer off Mike Hampton gave the Marlins a two-run lead in the first inning. Cantu worked the count full in an 11-pitch at-bat, and fouled off five balls before depositing his 12th homer of the season. Emilio Bonifacio started the rally with his 13th bunt single, which is tied for second most in the Major Leagues.

Cantu went deep for the first time since July 31, a span of 47 at-bats.

Hampton left the game after five innings with a left shoulder strain. In the seventh inning, Marlins outfielder Cody Ross exited with lower back stiffness.

West kept the Astros off the board until two outs in the fifth inning. Humberto Quintero delivered a ground-rule double and scored on Hampton's second single of the game. On the play at the plate, Quintero jammed his left ankle while sliding into the foot of Paulino. After shaking it off, Quintero remained in the game.

Paulino got the run back on Hampton's first pitch of the fifth inning, crushing his sixth home run of the season to deep left-center, giving the Marlins a 3-1 advantage.

You guys have no idea what happened at the game tonight.

My friends and I were sitting in right field, yelling at Hunter Pence the entire game. At some point, we get called by the usher on the field by the jacuzzi. We looked at him and he said, I got a ball for you. The main heckler went down, got the ball, it was signed by the bullpen and Steve Foster. That's how intense the heckling was. We got REP'D by the bullpen.

                      key highlights were

-Finding out Hunter plays world of warcraft, and his main character is a "mage."
-Ben Greive went to his rival high school, so how does it feel to be the second best player from his town
-Asking Hunter if his girlfriend, "terrie b," knew he played world of warcraft.
-Asking Hunter if Roy Oswalt ever lets him ride his tractor
-Asking Hunter if he cared that Wes Helm's walk up song is the same as his ringtone (Nickelback)
-Asking Hunter if he cared being second fiddle to Kelly Clarkson (from same town)
-Yelling at Jason Michaels when Hunter was pulled, how it felt to back up a world of warcraft player
-Asking Hunter why he cut off his mullet and rat tail
-Letting Hunter know we set his DVR to catch all the bass championship reruns so he wouldn't miss them
-Letting Hunter know it's ok to go 0-3, just remember your prom
-Asking Hunter when he turns 18 so he can buy chewing tobacco and stop chewing chewing gum
-Letting Hunter know he chews gum like a girl
-Letting Hunter know Yadier Molina has a higher stolen base percentage, and they time Yadier Molina's 40 with a sundial.

And about 100 more things. He was visibly shaking his head, was the last Astro to run out onto the field every inning, and ran in fast every time from RF. Huge success.

We also got Billy to do the truffle shuffle.

                      Awesome game.
