MIAMI -- Holding nothing back, Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez mixed and matched, using all his position players as well as four relievers.
A series of strategic moves helped force extra innings, but they ultimately couldn't secure a comeback victory.
David Wright's RBI single and Willie Harris' two-run double in the 10th inning lifted the Mets to a 6-4 win on Saturday in front of 32,495 at Sun Life Stadium.
Wright, who homered in the fourth inning, delivered the tie-breaking single off Ryan Webb, who faced three batters and didn't record an out in the 10th. Mike Dunn inherited two on, and he logged back-to-back strikeouts before Harris' double down the right-field line.
Florida didn't go quietly in the 10th, as Brett Hayes collected a two-out RBI single off Blaine Boyer.
The Marlins forced extra innings on Greg Dobbs' two-out pinch-hit RBI single off Francisco Rodriguez in the ninth.
In an energized ninth, the Mets initially grabbed the lead, only to watch the Marlins rally in their half of the inning.
Josh Thole's two-out RBI single off Leo Nunez put the Mets in front, 3-2.
But the Marlins were able to rally off Rodriguez. John Buck singled with one out, and Brett Hayes entered as a pinch-runner. With two outs, Emilio Bonifacio singled to right, putting runners at the corners. Dobbs' single to center pulled Florida even and forced extra innings.
Bonifacio had an eventful night, playing three different positions, which tied a club record for one game. He opened in right field, moved to third base and switched to center field in the 10th inning.
