Also #Marlins reassigned Chad James to minor league camp
more moves today. Lubanski cut. Looks like Wise has the inside track, methinks. Not sure why Sanabia and West were optioned this early given the "minor" injuries our staff has been collectively having. They must have faith in the health because Shawn Hill was reassigned too. I guess that leaves only Elih right now as a guy who's battling and I guess the organization is taking him seriously.
JUPITER, Fla. -- The Marlins started off Wednesday by making a number of roster moves.
Outfielder Chris Lubanski was released.
Kyle Skipworth, Vinny Rottino, Tom Koehler and Shawn Hill were reassigned to Minor League camp.
Steve Cishek, Sean West, Alex Sanabia, Dustin Richardson and Bryan Petersen were optioned to Triple-A New Orleans, while Sandy Rosario was optioned to Double-A Jacksonville.
Baker is trying to be a lefty bay off the bench, so is Dobbs
Bonifacio is our utility man, Switch hitter
Helms sucks
Hayes and Davis are battling for the back up C spot
I'm rooting for Dobbs, Cousins, Hayes, Bonifacio and Helms (who has an automatic spot because of his "leadership"). I love Baker, but I rather him work on his AB's in the minors, and get that arm ready to be our back up catcher in a couple month(s). Once Bake comes back, most of our bench will be lefty's.
Pitcher Elih Villanueva, infielder Tim Torres, outfielder John Raynor and catcher Clint Sammons were reassigned to minor league camp, bringing the number to 37 remaining in camp.
Rodriguez praised Villanueva, a 24-year-old right-hander. He had a 1.38 ERA and 13 spring training innings.
“He made a strong impression on everybody,” Rodriguez said. “He’s going to be in the big leagues eventually for many, many years. He knows that.”
