Tommy had a good idea. Have Vazquez throw to our hitters in the batting cage before the game and get knocked around then.

it seems to me he might just not be getting loose. It's possible that his age and/or decreased velocity is causing him to not get loose in the same way he used to. Maybe it's as simple as changing his pre-game tune-up

Joba did this a few years ago.

Javier Vazquez sounded like Debbie Downer after Florida’s 8-4 loss today:

“I’m doing my best. Believe me, man. I’m doing my best, but nothing’s working, nothing’s working. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.’’

That’s the first time I’ve heard a starting pitcher sound so down. Usually, after a player has a rough game, we’ll get a comment laced with at least a hint of optimism.

Not from Vazquez today. “It’s all negative right now for me,” he said.

“There’s no positive right now. I’m going out there, giving the team three, four innings. That’s not going to cut it,’ he said.

The Marlins don’t sound like they’re ready to give up on Vazquez. He will make his next start Friday at Sun Life Stadium against Tampa, manager Edwin Rodriguez said.

And Rodriguez went on to say that Vazquez’s next start after Friday would be in San Francisco. The Marlins have an off-day May 23, so they could skip his turn in the rotation.

“I’m not going to give up,’’ Vazquez said. “But it’s frustrating like never before in my life. I wish I had an explanation.’’

As reporters filed out of the clubhouse, the door to Rodriguez’s office was closed. Inside was Larry Beinfest, the president of baseball operations.

The Marlins aren’t exactly flush with starting pitchers in their minor league system, but there are options at Class AAA New Orleans.

Jay Buente is 3-0 with a 1.95 ERA… Tom Koehler is 4-0 with a 2.66 ERA… Elih Villanueva is 4-3 with a 5.67 ERA… Sean West and Alex Sanabia are on the disabled list…
Marlins have Javier Vazquez on a short leash?

Hard not to root for him with that kind of pointed honesty.

He can't even win the battle of "post-game debbie downer comment of the year" award.

                          John Lackey's was wayyyy better!

So we could totally skip this guy if we wanted to, right?

                                We won't but we could.
