Wouldn't be surprising to me if he's had a serious family issue on his mind this season with the way he's been playing.

    Godspeed to him.
God would be expecting a first pitch breaking ball in the dirt because humans love to disappoint him.

I don't know about all that.

      Hope all is well, regardless.

So they can call someone up then right? Buente would be perfect callup having pitched yesterday. Oh and dominating so far this year.

Looking at this from a baseball standpoint (and hoping it's nothing too serious with his family), he's going to be on the bereavement list for 3-7 days. As Lou mentioned in the game thread, because of the off day Thursday, we can skip him this turn in the rotation and have JJ start on Sunday in DC and Ricky start on Monday in New York. Javquez could be back Tuesday versus the Mets or we'd need a spot starter for that day without Volstad going on short rest that day.
          --------------------
As of now there is no timetable for his return, and the team hasn’t made a corresponding roster move.

He is scheduled to start again on Sunday at Washington, and it is unclear at this time if he will be reinstated by then.

As I hope everything is ok with his family This seems a little to fishy.. My guess is they want to skip him one turn in the rotation and see how he fares.

The best part of this is that you called him Javquez

Tuesday, the Marlins placed Vazquez on the bereavement list. Manager Edwin Rodriguez said a relative on Vazquez's wife side passed away unexpectedly in Puerto Rico. Vazquez departed Tuesday morning and will rejoin the team Friday in Washington. He will not miss his next scheduled start Sunday at Nationals Park.

"I don't know if it's his wife's brother or his wife's cousin, but I know it was a close family member," Rodriguez said. "He felt sick [Monday]. The doctor sent him to the hospital and he died."

Rodriguez would not speculate as to whether Vazquez pitched with his head and heart elsewhere Monday. Vazquez knew something was wrong back home, but he didn't find out the particulars of the situation until after the game.

"On the mound, I don't think [he was distracted]," Rodriguez said. "Maybe. Only he knows that, but in the other part of the game I think so."

"He stayed in the dugout two or three innings and you could tell he was devastated and very frustrated," Rodriguez said. "Maybe it was a combination of both things…The quality in terms of the spin and rotation of his pitches is there. What's missing is location. When you depend on locating and changing speeds, if one of those isn't working it's going to be a long day, or a short one on the mound."

The Marlins opted not to make a corresponding roster move for Vazquez, who per bereavement list rules must miss at least three games and maximum of seven.

Excuse me for transposing letters. Nice of you to point that out when others on here spell his name Vasquez and Vazques.

It wasn't but, now that I reread it, I kind of like it, too. It could be a good nickname for him.

Sorry for being defensive. I'm just used to everyone attacking me for everything I say.

I wish he acted like Jorge Posada and refused to pitch.

Even if you put him in a mop-up role he probably has too much respect for Edwin.
