I don't even know what to say about this.... Between him, Andre Dawson, and Tony Perez, the Florida Marlins must lead MLB in unworthy HOF inductees associated with an organization. His voice is soothing, I guess. I wouldn't mind hiring him to read to me if I was really sick in the hospital or something- but he can't keep track of what the hell is going on in a game. I don't want my radio baseball announcer telling me stories about how a bottle of Coke was a nickel when he was a kid, or what shade of gray the opposing team is wearing. And the whole time he is rambling on about whatever the hell happens to come to his mind at the time- everyone listening has to guess what is happening based on the faint sound of a bat hitting a ball, or by the reaction of a crowd of 6,302 people. He is a senile fool with ADD. He should be announcing golf. He could tell all the damn stories he wants while they are down on the ground planning their putts for 8 minutes at a time. I guess Benito Santiago, Ryan Bowen, Eric Owens, and Russ Mormon will be next to be enshrined. This is an outrage!

Yes, I've listened to many radio broadcasters around the country via the MLB At Bat app. I can firmly say that I believe DVH is among the worst. You don't and that's cool, but I don't like his voice (sorry) and really hate his game calling (or lack of).

How does he compare to Rich and Tommy? He doesn't. Rich and Tommy are TV announcers. They don't have to give score updates as frequently because it's on the screen. They don't have to describe the action in detail because it can be seen. Radio announcing is a completely different realm from TV broadcasting. You can mute a TV broadcast and still have every idea what's going on. If you mute a radio broadcast, well...you've got nothing. That person becomes your only insight into the game. It is therefore his job to describe every pitch, all the action, and THE MOTHERFUCKING SCORE OF THE GODDAMNED BALLGAME EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. Dave does none of that.

And yeah, I don't like his voice. I definitely see how people like it but it is not for me. That's a difference of opinion and I respect that some people think it's "classic." But his game calling is absolute shit and reeks of senility. Yeah, it's cute that he carries around a list of the Expos 1994 roster in his wallet (actually, more creepy than cute). That doesn't make him a good game caller.

I guess if you do a job long enough you eventually get honored.
