He's nothing special. He fell out of flavor with the Sox brass due to him not being able to throw strikes. As a Red Sox fan I like this deal. I realize Miller never broke out or been even serviceable in the majors but it was worth a shot to see if a change of teams could help. Miller clearly wasn't going to ever do anything in a Marlins uniform. Better they moved him now for anything instead of non-tendering him or releasing him outright.
