    Nolasco contract update
There has been some movement in the negotiations between the Marlins and Ricky Nolasco on a multi-year contract.

Nolasco's agent, Matt Sosnick, appeared on the Diamond Hoggers' Baseball Show on Thursday, and he shed some light on the contract talks.

Sosnick said the sides have agreed on the number of years, but are "about 20 percent" off on the salary. Sosnick anticipates talks to pick up again in November or December.

Nolasco earned $3.8 million in 2010, and he has two more seasons left of arbitration, if a multi-year contract isn't reached. So the right-hander won't have the necessary service time to be a free agent until after the 2012 season.

If the sides don't agree on a minimum of three years, there is a strong chance the Marlins will sign Nolasco for separate contracts for 2011 and 2012, which will be the organization's first season in their retractable-roof ballpark.

Based on the progress being made on a multi-year contract, it appears promising that Nolasco will sign for at least three seasons before Spring Training begins.

Easy, $21-24 range. Fight over that extra $500,000 Marlins. Because god knows, you will use to get a lefty for the bench.

If we do that how will Mike Lamb be in the majors?

I would be ok with bringing Tracy back.

Matt Sosnick, the agent for Ricky Nolasco, said he is "optimistic" that he and the Marlins will work out a multi-year deal for the right-hander.

"I would say certainly nothing's going to happen soon," Sosnick advised. "But I would be surprised if something didn't end up happening. We have had some conversations and I think we've made some progress."

TheMarlins are believed to be discussing a3-year contract for Nolasco, which would buy out one year of free agency.

Perhaps most telling of all is that Sosnick said he is more confident that a deal will get done with Nolasco than he was at this same point a year ago when he was handling the negotiations for Josh Johnson. Those discussions ended up stalling over demands for a fourth year which, ultimately, the Marlins ended upgranting totheir ace.

He apparently has signed with the Hiroshima Carp for $1.3million. Now we have a lefty bench hole again.
