I do think he pitched better toward the end of the season, but he was also actually getting run support at the end of the season - I remember Rich and Tommy saying he was getting something around an average of 6 runs/game toward the end of the year, whereas earlier in the year, they didn't score much at all when Volstad was starting.

One thing I noticed is it seems like a lot of the times when Volstad started, the other team's starting pitcher got a lot of run support. That could explain a lot of Volstad's struggles.
