Did Something Click for Volstad in September?

I can back up (and have) everything I've said with a quote of someone who has been in baseball pretty much their entire lives and get paid to know all of this and still you all try to say that I'm stupid and don't know what I'm talking about. What else did you expect them to say. Unless your manager is Ozzie Guillen or something it isn't like they are going to criticize him in the media.

If a 4.46 ERA/1.40 WHIP (with a 4.61 xFIP and 16 K's in 36 innings) is "clicking" and "good," then yup, it clicked and he's good.

The 4.46 ERA/1.40 WHIP/4.61 xFIP/K/9 I cited? Yeah, those were his September/October numbers, when he supposedly clicked and was good and stuff.

But he really wasn't good, at least if you want to look at ERA/WHIP/xFIP/Kper9 and other, well, numbers that actually measure pitching performance.

I'll bash his peripherals which suggest that's not sustainable.

Funny that we use the final 5 and not the final 6, because with the final 6 he's got the mid 4's ERA, since he gave up 6 ERs to the Nats in 5 IP.

Also, two of those final 5 outings:

@ PHI (9/7): 5 IP, 5 ER, 3 HR allowed
@ WSH (9/12): 4.2 IP, 5 ER

In actuality, he had an outstanding start against St. Louis, and two very good starts against Milwaukee and Pittsburgh to close the year. So if he's "locked up" a rotation spot, that's why. Becuase of three starts. That is silly silly silly.

Otherwise, he was bad Volstad for the month of September. And in August, he was the fifth starter type that shouldn't be banished to AAA but should not be guaranteed a rotation spot.

By that logic and small sample size selection, I guess something "clicked" on May 1st and 7th and then Volstad "unclicked" again for pretty much the rest of the season.

The dude is garbage. Even garbage does well sometimes over a 5 game span.
