What happened to LoMo shouldn't be happening around major league baseball. There is no reason for a ball player to fear his life, or get seriously injured and possibly die on the field. LoMo was hit right below his left eye, a couple more inches up, and he couldve been blind(look at encarnacion) and boom there goes a 23 year olds baseball career. Now, let say he gets hit a couple inches down, on his neck. If this were to happen at the velocity and range LoMo was hit from, it could have easily exploded and artery on his neck, and he would have internally bled to death(look at coolbaugh, Rockies coach). There could be a couple things done like putting a protective fiber glass area around the on deck circle(kind of like in hockey). This would require the ballplayer to stand in a protected area with enough space to swing his bat and stretch out. Another thing that could be done is having the hitter stay inside the dugout just as if he were "in the hole". Something has to be done as soon as next season because nobody wants another freakish injury or fatality to happen, and this can surely happen again if we don't do something.

You don't even need to do all that. Just have on deck batters stand in the circle behind the hitter. It's impossible to pull the ball that much.

MIAMI — Retiring Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox has received an assortment of going-away gifts this year from other teams, including a Wrigley Field seat and an autographed Stan Musial photo.

The Florida Marlins gave Cox a snub.

Florida's three-game weekend series against NL East rival Atlanta ended Sunday without any ceremony for Cox, who criticized Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria earlier this season.

Cox has been honored in every other city when the Braves have made their final visit of the season — even by American League teams such as the Twins and White Sox.

But there was no ceremony or gift for Cox when the Braves played in Miami for the final time this year.

Marlins president David Samson declined to give a reason, saying the team had no comment. But the Marlins were likely mindful of remarks Cox made after his protege, Fredi Gonzalez, was fired as their manager in June.
Said Cox of Loria: "That guy doesn't appreciate anything."

Cox will retire after this season, his 25th as manager of the Braves. He didn't get a win in his last trip to Florida, either, losing 7-6 in 10 innings.

                      Good.

Bobby Cox is a dick and wife-beater. I'm glad we're the only org that didn't honor that piece of trash.
