  • New Stadium and Current Attendance

Usually in the years preceding a new ballpark, attendance begins to climb at the old stadium as season ticket holders start to lock in their priority at the new stadium.

Weekday crowds at JRS have usually been in the 10-13K range for about almost a decade. Sunday crowds tend to do slightly better. In the last three months, there has been a trend in Sunday and weekday attendance to outperform what has been considered normal.

Is the ballpark beginning to sell seats? Even though overall attendance is down 786 fans per game compared to last year, I think a large part of that is due to lackluster Super Saturday crowds. (Maybe the novelty is wearing off?)

I don't have a graph yet, but consider:

    Tonight VS. Nats: 18,500
    Last night VS. Nats: ~18,000
    August 3rd-5th VS PHI: 19,378, 21,844, 19,121
    July 19th-22nd VS COL: 16,012, 18,332, 29,102 (camp day)
    June 15-17 VS TEX: 17,130, 17,014 , 11,683

Compared to earlier in the year:

    June 1-3 VS MIL: 11,202, 11,468, 11,717
    May 25-27 VS ATL: 11,434, 15,238, 11,381
    May 17-18 VS ARZ: 10,870, 13,289

$7.10 and $7.90 nights may have something to do with it, but those are not valid for every weekday or series. Miami Herald 2 for Tuesdays have been around for years and I never noticed a large spike in attendance for those.

    Something to consider moving forward.

You also have to consider this ownership group comp'd a hell of a lot of seats in the last week of '02 so they outdrew Montreal.

I'm very skeptical of those Sunday numbers.
