He pitched a scoreless inning in Arizona, but it wasn't encouraging (deeeep fly out, scorching line out that just stayed up a bit too long, etc.).

New fireballer

The Marlins best relief prospect is now in the majors. Right-hander Jhan Marinez, who features an upper 90s fastball, was selected from Double-A Jacksonville. To accommodate him, the Marlins outrighted Dan Meyer to Triple-A New Orleans.

Marinez opened the season as the organization's 10th-best prospect according to Baseball America. In 40 innings between Class-A Jupiter and Jacksonville, Marinez walked 21 and struck out 60.

"I was hopeful [of a call up] because I was working harder and harder every day, doing what I needed to do to be here," said Marinez, who turns 22 next month.

Marinez showed enough command of his slider to justify the promotion. His changeup remains a work in progress.
