  • Chris Volstad Optioned to AAA

Volstad down to AAA, Burke Badenhop recalled and all indications point to Sanabia taking Volstad's spot in the rotation.

This is total bullshit! He has one bad start and they ship him off to AAA? We didn't DFA Robertson after he couldn't get out of the 3rd inning a couple weeks ago. This is bullshit! I didn't think I could get anymore upset at this front office after the whole firing Fredi, botching getting Valentine mess but I am.

Wow. That's shocking. His numbers aren't that horrific, are they?
          --------------------
As for a starter, Sanabia could start Sunday and then have a new 5th starter after the break. West?

New Orleans isn't a great place for a dude with a drinking problem.

True. But neither is South Florida.

Anyway, this is dumb. Send him down why? Because he looks like a 4th-5th starter all year? That's what Volstad is (Unfortunately, that's what, like, 3/5 of the rotation is). He's not going to learn anything more or get any better in AAA, and he's not going to suddenly acquire any more talent. He's not very good, but he's passable at the MLB level. On his good days.

And the reason NateBob probably hasn't been sent down/removed is "what's the damn point?" The FO (probably) thinks Volstad can be helped by this demotion, like Ricky was last year. That ain't gonna happen with NateBob.

Yeah, sending him down will do nothing for him. He's not going to "figure it out" down there. The FO needs to figure out that he's just not very good, but can be a decent 5th starter.

maybe they just want to slow down his arbitration clock because they know they aren't going anywhere? I wouldn't put it past these clowns.

Maybe the FO wants him to bring in some beignets after Volstad gets back with the big club.

Why would you DFA Nate Robertson instead of sending down Volstad?

You lose nothing except one Chris Volstad start with this move and give him a chance to feel some pressure and maybe pull his head out of his ass.

Whereas if you DFA Nate Robertson, you probably lose him, and despite what some think here, he has his utility.

I thought the same thing, but it doesn't add up.

                            Starter season 1.085
                            Gained so far 2010 - .093
                            Total - 2.006

Days left this season - 89

He wouldn't become Super2 eligible (approx 2.130 give or take 10 days) even if he stayed on the roster the entire season. I don't see cash savings being any motivating factor here.

                            ---

I think this is a big over reaction. He'll be back quickly after the all star break. I'm sure this is to get him some extra coaching time and 2-3 starts against AAA kids just to rebuild some confidence.
