I'd want this to happen just for the amount of laughter that would come from it.

He'd be fired in Spring Training.

"Hey Ozzie, we expect you to manage a contending team this year, a playoff team. But you'll have one of the lowest payrolls in baseball."

First press conference:Ozzie: "Dis sum bullshit mang, dese gringos dumb as shit."

"But Ozzie, you get payroll NEXT year!"

          Too late, man. Too late.

Just a random thought, but I think there is a strong possibility Ozzie Guillen would have punched out Jim Joyce

Ozzie's family is in South Florida. Up until this year one (or two?) of his son(s) attended Monsignor Pace.

This would make sense for Ozzie. It would not make sense for the Front Office. The last thing they would want is someone as vocal as Ozzie.

Unless Ozzie wanted his kids to attend high school in South Fla. I believe both play baseball and South Fla is a much better place to showcase talent than Chicago.

I just can not see this happening in any way. But it'd be fun if it did.

Doesn't our near-signing of Bobby Valentine show that we're willing to go against our "no outspoken mangers" policy if it's the right manager?

doesn't the "near" part show that we aren't?

No. It just shows that shit happens.

That we considered him means more than that we didn't end up signing him.

Wasn't it more that Loria considered Valentine than the entire FO considering Valentine, and that after the Samson/Beinfest/Hill trio had a chance to speak with Valentine, they realized he'd be outspoken and not the puppet they want?

I mean, maybe Loria's willing to consider Ozzie (like he was Valentine), but the rest of the FO probably isn't. Based on most of the reports about the Valentine ordeal, both now and last offseason, it seemed as if Loria, not Samson/Beinfest/Hill, was the driving force behind Valentine's involvement. The other guys never wanted Valentine, and I don't see why they'd want Ozzie when Ozzie's even more outspoken and has clashed with Kenny Williams on multiple occasions (Kenny Williams is kind of a dummy, but that's not relevant here).

Maybe Ozzie's prior relationship with the organization makes a difference in the mind of Samson/Beinfest/Hill, but after all the shit Ozzie's pulled in Chicago, I can't see Ozzie's history with the FO outweighing the likely reality that Ozzie's gonna stir shit up and not keep giving a guy like Bonifacio or Maybin ABs just because that's what the front office wants.
