At this point Edwin has to stay for the remainder of the season, no? Especially since it looks like they're gonna be in a position to blow up the team at the deadline.
I think it has to do more that the team sucks this season and he'll be offered it again in the offseason and he'll take it.

Yeah, why would Valentine take it now if the team's just gonna be blown up anyway? He can see what they do at the deadline, how the kids look, and how the team should look going into 2011. And he'll have a clearer picture of the 2011 payroll.
I don't blame him for passing on the job now. Valentine likely knows that he's the only guy they'd offer this job to on a non-interim basis. Next offseason, he'll have a wider selection of job opportunities and a better indication of what this team looks like in 2011. And if the Marlins job goes to someone else, so what? It's not like the Marlins are one of MLB's premier jobs anyway.
