  • Pinto Released, Sosa Outright to NOLA

    http://twitter.com/clarkspencer/status/16876327921 for Pinto

well, whoever it was that told me that you can't already assume Pinto will be traded was right. That makes me ill towards the move then, as now we're eating his 1.1m contract to have players no better than him on the roster.

Why would anyone give up anything for him after he was DFA'd?

The reason you designate someone is because you NEED to make a roster move then. It gives you time to try and find someone to trade him to, outright him, or release him. I just thought we'd get a C "prospect" for him, guess I am wrong.

I mean, we got Kyle Grunderson for Logan kensing after we DFA'd him, and kensing sucks. I was with 21, I figured we'd be getting minor league filler or something to clear his dollah signs from payroll

I know what it means. But if someone's DFA'd then eventually they can be had for free either through waivers or FA. I suppose you might give up almost nothing to guarantee you'll get him but whatever. I know he's available in 10 days.

I wasn't saying it because I didn't think you knew the process, I just did it to reiterate it's purpose. Look at Jake Fox of the Orioles. He was designated for assignment by Oakland and a week later the O's acquired him.

I guess if you're a team low on the waiver order and you feel someone above you would claim him, then you make the trade to ensure you get him and don't give other teams the opportunity.
