  • First Roof Beam Installed at New Stadium

Just thought I'd post the latest webcam pictures:

As you can see in this next picture, some of the first sections of the fixed part of the roof have been installed.

A real, living breathing baseball stadium. I almost still can't believe it.

On the left side of the webcam page under the calendar, there's a place that says "share image." Click that, then click the save tab (and save button) and load the picture into photobucket (or whatever site you may use) and post it. I hope that made sense.

The Marlins announced Wednesday they'd crossed another hurdle in the ongoing construction of their new ballpark on the former site of the Orange Bowl in Little Havana: the first piece of structural steel to support the roof has been put in place. Weighing 24,000 pounds, the beam is the first of 13 that will make up the fixed steel roof structure on the ballpark's west side. It is scheduled to be completed in July.

Claude Delorme, the team's executive vice president of ballpark development, said in a statement the venue is more than 34 percent complete and that much of the next 13 months will be focused on the roof.

The full fixed canopy for the roof -- including the east, south and north sides - is scheduled to be completed in January.

I can't stop staring at these pictures. I will always remember the time we had a stadium that looked like a baseball stadium. By the time it opens Loria will make it look like a friggin art gallery, so I'm enjoying this now

Some new stadiums incorporate baseball art. Safeco is kinda famous for it.

I'd answer/not answer that question if I knew whether you were joking.

LOL it does look like metro rail tracks. It would actually be pretty freakin awesome if they could somehow get a metro rail station down there. I loved the old Miami Arena with the station dumping you right in front of the building.

Maybe I'm weird, but I actually wish they'd put more webcams up - one facing the right outfield wall (since we soon won't be able to see it via the original camera) and one more facing the plaza that will be under the roof when it's open since they're supposed to be assembling portions of the roof there.

                            ---

On a note more related to this thread, they're installing a fourth roof beam as we speak.
