Friday is take out the trash day as the West Wing famously dubbed it. You are avoiding a major news cycle by placing it the day before the weekend, since news isn't a major concern on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sports adds a dimension to this, because the logo will be drowned out by pro and college football games. No one will care Friday night, or hear about it Saturday or Sunday, and it'll be three-day old news by Monday when the news cycle comes back.
