All team names are plural, regardless of how many of the mascots are in the logo. Just look at the Cubs and Tigers. They also only have one Cub and one Tiger but both team names are plural. Most likely because there is more than one player on the team.

besides the fact that marlins (like fishes) is grammatically acceptable, there is no grammar in sports (read: Maple Leafs, Sox, A's, RBIs)
