Coghlan is pretty damn bad in LF. He made a couple of really nice diving catches, but that doesn't mean he's good or even average. He gets bad reads and seems to be especially bad on balls that are rolling in the gap. He seems to take really bad angles on those.

We should know enough by now to not be tricked by diving plays. Those are entirely unrepresentative of overall fielding ability.

Even saying all that, I'm opposed to BC as an everyday starter. He'd get eaten alive offensively. He's a perfect 4th outfielder that you find a way to get into the lineup against LHP.

I enjoyed when he dove for the ground ball in left center the other day. I enjoyed it a lot

The important thing about Cogs in left is that most of his uggggggh moments come at home, now granted, some of those are bad throws, but Pro Player has without a doubt the worst LF in the majors. Bad lights, the huge wall and swirling wind. I'm not saying he's going to win any gold gloves, or even be above average, but Cliff Floyd and Pat Burrell, who spent a lot of time out there say that there's Pro Player's left field and then every place else.

So I'll just patiently wait until he's an infielder again and say that it's part him, part ballpark and asserting frustration over it is pointless and also that his play at home is not necessarily indicative of his overall ability.

I think you are overestimating the park itself. CC runs bad routes on balls the wind and lights don't really affect in other parks.

He almost went Chuckie Carr tonight though.

Don't disagree, he's not a good fielder out there, but what we're asking of him in Pro Player's left is akin to taking a person whose second language is English and asking him to be a creative writer.

Pretty encouraging to see Anibal keeping his walks down the last couple of starts...and nice to see the Ks come back this start.
