  • Bullpen Blows It: Astros 5, Marlins 4

    The Miami Herald
Positioned for the win, Johnson instead watched his defense and bullpen fail him in a 5-4 loss to the Astros.

Shortstop Hanley Ramirez mangled a rundown, leading to one important Astros run. And reliever Burke Badenhop relinquished the one-run lead he inherited from Johnson, making it two nights in a row that the bullpen came undone in a Marlins loss to last-place Houston.

    South Florida Sun Sentinel
One ball went 40 feet down the first base line for an infield single. Another rolled to the wall in center. Add them up and the result is another blown save and the Marlins first series loss.

Pinch-hitter Geoff Blum's two-run triple off Burke Badenhop in the seventh delivered the Astros to the 5-4 win, their second come-from-behind victory in as many games against the Marlins. A three-run cushion with ace Josh Johnson on the mound wasn't enough to set up a rubber game Thursday.

    Palm Beach Post
Florida Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has made it clear he believes his team is of playoff quality.

Loria, though, may have to spend some of his major league-high $46.1 million of profit on relief pitching to make that happen.
