I'd rather have Smoltz in the BP than pedro

Would be awesome to have him closing out games

Why does everyone seem to forget that Vanden Hurk was called up with barely any starts above A ball? This organization halted his development by rushing him to the bigs.

Vanden Hurk has added some ground ball inducing stuff to his repertoire, a sinker I believe. Also been working on a slider for quite a while. A pitcher like him, with his ability to throw velocity, should of probably started working a splitter when still in rookie ball, and a cutter as well. He has the tools to be a damn good starter(or reliever), just needs to put it all together. I remember a game against St. Louis I believe a few years ago where he got 7 or 8 K by throwing his fastball at varying speeds. I believe he dropped his curveball, entirely, which is a shame though.

He didn't drop it entirely last year but he only threw it a handful of times

I think because he was having trouble locating the pitch. He went more with the slider, because he had an easier time of spotting it.

One of lifes cruel ironies, Vanden Hurk had a fairly impressive curveball, mechanics wise, but couldnt put it where he wanted to.
