Swift I totally agree we could be much worse off (record wise) at this point.

But how long before we say, "How bad is the bullpen?". We've asked ourselves "How bad is CC's start?" already. When do we acknowledge the laughing stock that is our bullpen in one of our blogs?

We have acknowledged it. From Day 1 it was has been acknowledged. It is a joke-filled shitty bullpen. What is a blog about it going to do. I would like to see somebody asked in the media soon about that bullpen and see a pissed off response that something needs to change, preferably from a Beinfest or that Hill fella. Granted, we will just see something about getting em all back out on the horse as soon as possible.

Well, I think we're bad now, and aside from Beinfest/Fredi's mancrush on Veras, I don't think the performances come as a huge shock to the organization; we did try to pass Pinto off to anyone, but decided it was better to keep him than cut him, something I more or less agree with.

However, the "panic" button can't be hit until after Sanches comes back, thereby giving us the 7 relievers we wanted to break camp with, who, presumably, would then give us the roles more defined. Sanches gives us that bridge/set-up hybrid we need and are kind of forcing Hensley into now. Using Hensley as the long guy, Sanches as the fireman and the rest as "whatever" might fix things a tad, and it might not; if it doesn't, then it's panic time.

Also, just for kicks, there's a free agent I'm "intrigued" by: Braden Looper.

I don't think there's really much reason to worry about either CC or the bullpen, but there's less reason to worry about the pen because there are tangible moves the team can make the improve that.

With CC, you just have to wait it out. Either he starts hitting or he doesn't and Logan comes up and butchers in LF.

But if Jose Veras, Renyel Pinto, Dan Meyer and the rest keep pitching like crap, they'll be gone, and we'll keep trying guys until they stick.

Beinfest has proven in the past he's not afraid to throw shit on the wall until it sticks. It's worked, and I have faith it will work now. Worst comes to worst, RVH, Jose Ceda, Chris Leroux, Taylor Tankersley, Ryan Tucker and a bunch of other guys are in the minors and they'll all get their chances if it comes to it and they are pitching well.

Outside of a mandate to win from the FO, this team resembles an awful lot of the Nationals last year...at least at the outset. Solid starters, shitty pen that's caused issues and an offense that has done it's part. Thru April 19th last year, the Nats pen lost five games for them.

            FLA 2010: 40 runs thru 8 games
            WAS 2009: 42 runs thru 8 games

Granted our starters were better then theirs last year as they had Daniel Cabrera who was an absolute black hole.

You even said it yourself. This could have been potentially a 0 or 1 win team if not for the offense. The Nats said the same thing last year.

So what you're saying is they look a lot like the Nats last year except their offense and pitching are potentially better...meaning they don't look a lot like the Nats.

The Nats offense was better at this point then ours was. The pens are a push and our rotation is better.

I didn't mean "we" as in we (Beef, Daft, Swift, Ramp etc). I meant "we" as in the front office.

They allowed 56 runs through 8 games.

Here's the key thing to think about though.

It was 8 games. It's indicative of nothing.

You don't think there's anything wrong with making a definitive statement 8 games into a baseball season, fip?

I'm just saying that you dismissed the similarities awfully quickly. Can you honestly say that this pen is at all better then theirs was last year? I'm not saying we're going to finish like them...i'm just drawing a comparison.

I think we/they knew it and are on roughly the same page. The problem is, as we saw with Julio and Bonifacio, egregious problems eventually get addressed, just oftentimes too late.

It's really hard to say anything about 8 games.

8 games in the Yankees were getting sodomized, ergo, we're on pace to be World Champions...?

8 games is long enough to realize this pen sucks
