Yeah, pretty hard to believe someone's gotten to the major leagues as a 1st baseman and can't stretch.

Well atleast you know it's not the coaches lack of trying here.

Thank You Ramp for that tidbit. Makes me want Logan up here that much more. Jew I think you may be correct in opening day jitters and what not but like Fredi says walks are unacceptable for his pitchers, so should errors and mental lapses. I'm not gonna criticize on a tough play in the hole or whatnot but routine plays and fundamental plays, those are what kills me and makes me really cringe.

I don't understand why you're ready to run Gaby out of town already. No doubt he didn't have the best of days on Monday, defensively, but he was better last night and has had some of the best at-bats on the team. He deserves an extended look.

I still think Gaby at 3rd and Cantu at 1st is bestest.

Good lord no. Gaby can't play 3B. He's at first because we tried him at literally every position we could, none worked, and finally we said, fuck it, we don't have a DH, go to first.

I like Gaby's bat but the fact remains that this team lacks in defense not scoring runs. We need to be more worried about giving up 6 runs a game than scoring 6 runs a game. I know its only the 2nd game of the season but our defense has been piss poor for a few years now. If we aren't replacing these players then they need more practice. Maybe someone knows better than I do, but how often does the team practice defense, from what I understand they don't pratice defense much if at all during the season.

Defense is not practiced much at all during the year

Team defense usually isn't practiced much. However, individual guys usually like to take grounders and whatnot during BP. I think I remember reading an article last year where Fredi wanted to make it a priority to take infield before all the games.

With that being said.. practice can only help so much. They just came out of spring training where I'm sure they really did a lot of defensive drills, etc. Once you're in the majors and especially when you're a veteran like most of the guys in the infield there isn't that much room for growth. At some point in time it is what it is.

Can Gaby get better with more practice? Sure, he's still young and may be getting used to playing first. Do I expect Uggla or Cantu to drastically improve on their defense? no.
