Yes, defensively. Gaby looked great at the plate.

I think he's generally going to give you good at bats, the question with him has always just been power. It's the only thing at the plate holding him back.

Eh, it's one game, tough to say someone looked "good" at the plate. Gaby was the one guy who wasn't having the fastball thrown by him, but he was well out in front of everything, I'd make the case he was cheating on the fastball, fine and all, but let's slow down with pronouncements of "good" and "bad." And that, begrudgingly, includes Maybin, who looked all kinds of overmatched.

I was speaking more generally as to his overall skill set based on his minor league history.

I agree that I think there's almost nothing you can take out of one game.

Right but Gaby saw a bunch of pitches and battled Johan in each at bat. I think that's what everyone means by good. Not just the end results.

Oh, I'm very happy he had a few grind 'em out AB's. No complaints at all.

Agreed. After Anibal got lit up by them in his final grapefruit league start and then getting knocked around by an entire squad of A-ballers, I wasn't looking forward to him going against the Mets again, either.

Some sort of strange posts in this thread.

I don't think anyone in their right mind thought today (one game) was any type of indicator as to how the rest of the season will be.

And if they did, they are the sort of knee jerk, reactionary fans that this website has no place for.

Bad loss today; will the Marlins go 0-162?

The only way to know for sure is to make a poll

Well I get not jumping to conclusions based on this game, but the game happened. Maybin looked hapless. There are some conclusions we can make, inasmuch as some guys had shitty games.

In Maybin's limited defense, all the outfielders were having problems with the sun/sky.

The rest made the plays though

                              Maybin is still young.
