Looks like round 1 in the battle for the 5th starter spot goes to VandenHurk.

West and Miller seem to be the same as last yr.. No control of the strike zone. The inning Miller gave up the runs. He got a double play and then walked 2 more guys and a hit then the bases clearing shot off the wall. Neither Miller or West should be in the pen either as you need to be able to throw strikes coming out of there and clearly they cannot do that!

its not just that.. Would rather they gotten shelled than avoiding the zone. They both need to work on the same thing which is finding the zone and the balance of working in and out of it! West needs time in NOLA anyways Miller this needs to be his break out yr!

When you're getting 40 pitches, it's hard to gauge any form of progress.

There is absolutely nothing that can be drawn from the rotation race from the first week of spring training unless someone gets seriously injured.
