Perhaps, but I think it's very silly to think the mental aspect isn't a huge factor.

Perhaps it is a huge factor for a small number of guys. Perhaps it is almost no factor for a huge number of guys. Perhaps it is the opposite

Perhaps they were mediocre at best in middle relief and therefore shouldn't be expected to be good at closing out games

Whenever someone mentions Matt Capps, I get a mental image of these things:

Lindstrom and Nunez were far from "mediocre at best" as middle relievers. They were solid. Like I said before; not thinking that a good portion of the formula needed to close out games is having the mental capacity to do so is silly.

It depends on the player/person. It is silly to think it is the same for everyone and it is silly to just assume it was the reason these guys sucked as closers

Lindstrom had a good rookie year and he was successful in his second year but that doesn't mean he is a plus reliever in any matter and there isn't much room for improvement. He is a servicable middle reliever and that may be questionable if he turns in another bad season. I admit being harsh on Nunez as he has been consistent the past 3 years and is a decent arm out of the pen.

I think Lindstrom's age had more to do with doubt than anything. 30 years old, still inexperienced and very inconsistent.
                  Record when He pitches: 3-2

Olney also writes that the Marlins are still looking for bullpen help and will sift through the remaining free agent relievers, including Kiko Calero. Florida nontendered Calero, ostensibly to avoid giving him a raise on his $500K salary in 2009.
                    Bring his ass back.

                    • Seeking bullpen help, the Marlins have talked to free agent Mike MacDougal (20 for 21 on saves for Washington in 2009) and former Yankees reliever Jose Veras.

                          • Yeah he has control issues. His stuff is electric, though.
