That reason is fine enough, but if that is the main reason a lot of people would cite (and I am not sure if it is or not - perhaps people really just think Hermida was bound to go from nothing to BUSTING OUT just because) for Hermida breaking out, then he still would not have done it for us since our park aint turning into Fenway.

Wouldn't be surprised if he spends the year in AAA

Fenway faithful will LOVE those diving trap catches.

Has he even had an option used?

And it takes 5 years of service time for a player to consent to being optioned, so he has no choice.

BTW, if Joe Robbie was a hindrance to Jeremy Hermida's offensive and defensive performance, Fenway Park is not going to help him. I know it's omg 302 down the line but it is easily 20-40 feet deeper down the line and into the gaps over rightfield in JRS. That and all those funny quirks in the wall.

Not that I think JRS was a hindrance to his offensive performance. I think the effects of JRS to lefthanded hitters are exaggerated.

I'm really indifferent to this trade. This is odd to me. Usually, I really like a trade or really hate it. This one, I truly don't care one way or another.

I guess I'll just bid Jeremy adieu and good luck.

When Epstein talked to Hermida, he could not define his role. Boston wants to re-sign Jason Bay, who thus far has brushed off a four-year, $60 million offer. If the Red Sox don't sign Bay, they'd like to sign Matt Holliday, and they have a mutually respectful relationship with Scott Boras and a family connection between Holliday and John Farrell.

But if they fall short on Bay and Holliday, they could get a right-handed bat and platoon him with Hermida, whose natural stroke has been to left-center. Or they could sign Bay or Holliday and use Hermida as a role player in left, right and DH.

"Someday, somewhere, Hermida is going to figure it out," says one NL GM. "He's expensive for most teams, but at 25 he's a great gamble for Boston."

I agree wholeheartedly with one NL GM.

                            A few thoughts about this:

                            1) He's going to kill it in Boston if they let him DH or something (yeah, I know that can't happen, but if he doesn't have to play the field, he's gonna rake in Fenway, his stroke is built for the nooks and crannies there, he'll hit 35 doubles off the monstah that were just outs at Pro Player, this is totally a Lowell-esque revival we're talking about here).

                            2) It's going to be funny as shit to see him try to play left in Boston. The monstah's going to eat him alive; if they're asking him to be the left fielder, whether it's full time or part time, he's not going to make it through the season, he's going to hang himself. Pressure ate him alive here, wait until he has 37 mics in his face after he misplays a ball off the wall in the 6th inning that led to 3 Yankee runs. That might be the first spontaneous combustion caught on HD cameras.

                            3) If the Red Sox have been stalking Hermida for the better part of two seasons (he was the key cog for Manny, too, since Stanton was never in play and Pitt just put that out there to make us look bad since it broke down over money) you really have to tip your hat to Beinfest for getting absolutely nothing in return for a player another GM evidently covets.

                            4) I'm bummed he's not getting the chance to start somewhere, I'd love to see Jeremy get a "who gives a crap, you suck, we're not counting on you to do anything" season and just watch him become a .900 OPS monster.

                            5) Really, wouldn't non-tendering him and giving him like $1.5 million been a better option? Even if he doesn't take the low-ball offer and walks we're still probably better off. We're just burning roster spots on guys who are utter garbage here.

                              I like Jose Alvarez's numbers.

And Jones seems like he might be a decent cost controlled LOOGY. Nothing special, but good enough.

I'm a huge fan of Hermida (probably the biggest on the board) but he has no value...
