There's your savings in 3rd and 4th round I'd say.

STREAK KEEPS ON!!!! Pitcher in 5th Rd

#74 on MLB and probably using some of the "savings" on him. Slot is 390K

      6'3 195

Combination of stuff and pitchability give him the chance to be the first on both fronts, though teams wanting to sign him might have to contend with his commitment to UCLA. Fitterer's command and the projection for more in the tank are reasons teams were starting to look at the right-hander in the first three rounds of the Draft. He's been up to as high as 95 mph and has sat 90-93 mph consistently while throwing a four-seamer and a two-seamer. The two-seamer has plus sink and run at times, sometimes throwing with cutter-like action. He'll throw both a curve and slider and though both blend into each other and get slurvy, he does have feel to spin it. The slider is a tick ahead now, but the curve could provide a different contrast with more depth from his cutting fastball in the future. His changeup has the chance to be at least above-average, though he hasn't used it as much this spring. Fitterer has been filling up the strike zone with his live stuff and could have future plus command and control. He reminds some of a young Kyle Hendricks, perhaps with a bigger fastball, but with a similar feel to pitch.

        94 overall on Fangraphs.

Also, why just not take him in 3 if you're going to go overslot on him?

Regardless, this looks like good value if he signs.

Probably have a "deal" with him(750K just say) and liked Burdick/Edwards so instead of taking them later and NOT saving much cash or missing out on them they take them early save lots of cash and still get the guy u got a deal with. Most guys taken in Top 5 Rds are gonna sign and teams know their numbers

My guess is they really like the bats they got in 3 & 4, but also knew they could get them for cheaper. Burdick's not going back coming off his 4th year in college as a redshirt junior, and obviously Edwards is a Senior. Teams probably have a list of cost savings guys (mostly college seniors) and Marlins got maybe the top two "Senior" bats.

Exactly they prolly liked Edwards and instead of taking him in 8th Rd(probably not even around) for 150K they take him now for 522K give him 100K or less and put the 422K towards this kid. Same for Burdick

Right-handed pitcher Evan Fitterer has shown scouts one of the best combinations of stuff and performance this spring in Southern California. He continues to show an easy, low 90’s fastball, a breaking ball with two-plane break and an excellent feel for a change. He has room to add strength and it makes him look like a future starter at higher levels.
