Ryan Lillie has a 2.27 ERA in Greensboro and was named a starter in the Single A All Star Game.

Jose Devers has an .833 OPS in June. He's just 18 but he's finally starting to figure things out this year.

Sandy Alcantara actually not bad in AAA (3.76 ERA in a hitters league). He's not near MLB ready yet but there are some encouraging signs with him popping up once he gains some control.

Not sure what Lillie is still doing in Greensboro at this point. I'd like to see what he can do in Jupiter the rest of the year.

Looks like Guzman made 2 mistakes last night but was otherwise very good.

Good to see Cooper finally start his rehab assignment.

Batavia has some interesting prospects. Cespedes and Encarnacion have gotten off to great starts to the season there.

Van Slyke should be called up for Shuck or Maybin.

Random reminder that the Marlins traded Chris Paddack for half a season of Fernando Rodney.

Paddack now has a 1.91 ERA in high A ball. 70 strikeouts to 3 walks. That is a real number.

Domingo German looks like a good starter for the Yankees long term. Averaging 11.8 K/9 IP.

Anthony Desclafani returned this year after last having a 3.28 ERA when he left.

Trevor Williams has a 4.00 ERA in Pittsburgh and is coming off a 7 inning shutout. The Marlins traded him for a pitching coach.

Andrew Heaney has a 3.64 ERA with the Angels.

Francis Martes reached the major leagues at 21 and was at one point a top 10 prospect in baseball. Marlins got Jarred Cosart for him.

Luis Castillo had a 3.12 ERA with the Reds last year. He has struggled so far this year but is just 25 years old.

There are likely others I am missing. Just a reminder that the Marlins have had legitimate pitching talent in the minor league system over the past 4 years and have squandered almost all of it.

Now that I've gotten that out there again, good to see Ethan Clark back pitching again. He was really good in GBoro previously.

Pablo Lopez still consistently good in AAA (not as ridiculous as he was in AA but that was clearly unsustainable). He's reaching the majors before this season is done.

Should mention that a friend who is a Yankee fan got me thinking about all that pitching we messed up again. German pitched today, Yankees fans love the guy, and while Prado gave 2 really good years to Miami, we traded a potential 6+ year rotation guy for an attempt at short term gain. Every deal I brought up could individually STILL be argued for the Marlins given multiple factors, but I find it hard to defend as a collective.

You make good points. But I don't see how the Rodney deal could be argued from a Marlins prospective. That was a bad deal at the time and it has just been getting worse. They bought at the absolute height of Rodney's value that year, then he was so bad they didn't pick up the cheap option on his deal. Although I guess getting Pablo Lopez for David Phelps kind of helps make up for it.

The point remains though that Loria was so impatient that even when they found talent, they squandered it for quick fixes that never led to any winning.
