Jared finished up having given up five earned runs in one inning of work across two games. He walked three and didn't strike anyone out.

P Chad Martin was also released. He was signed late of the Yankees organization on June 12. In four games in Batavia this year, he gave up four earned runs in 3.1 innings, walking five and striking out five.

Catching up on the releases over the last two weeks, per Baseball America:

RHP Brandon Barker: Barker ended up retiring after having been claimed off waivers from the Orioles in December. He pitched six games for Jacksonville this year, sporting a 10.45 ERA in 10.1 innings. He was a 16th round draft pick of the Braves in 2014.

LHP Chris Reed: After retiring in February of last year, Reed re-upped with the Marlins in April of this year. He was assigned to Greensboro on June 14, then was released on July 5. In four games combined with Greensboro and Jacksonville, Reed had a 1.29. He tossed seven innings, giving up nine hits, one walk, and four K's.

OF Zach Sullivan: Sully was a 14th round draft pick in 2014. He played for Greensboro in both 2015 and 2016, working his way up to Jupiter last year, where he hit just .178. He split this year between Greensboro and Jupiter, hitting .190 over 179 ABs, walking six times while striking out in 59 at-bats.

OF Scott Van Slyke: It was somewhat of a surprise that Van Slyke didn't break camp with the Marlins. He hit .248 with eight home runs in AAA this year and an .821 OPS. He had 21 walks and 43 Ks.

A few other notes: The Dodgers picked up the recently-released P Ben Holmes. The Tigers cut loose P Junichi Tazawa from AAA. The Cubs signed P James Buckelew, who had been pitching in the independents after getting let go by the Marlins this year.

Brian Ellington was released by the Diamondbacks. They couldn’t solve his control woes, as he walked 16 in 11.1 minor league innings, to the tune of a 16.68 ERA.
