I think the difference with Nicolino and Urena and Hand is that it's just a matter of talent with Nicolino. I don't think his shortcomings are things that can be fixed. His stuff is just mediocre and I think it's topped out at the AAA level, hopefully I'm wrong, but I can't see him becoming anything more than a guy whose constantly bouncing back and forth between AAA and the Majors.

Very possible, but he's always had a reputation as a guy who just knows how to pitch and it seems like when he gets up here he loses it. With O'Grady now injured id like to see him just given 7 or 8 starts in the rotation at the end of the year. ID rather have him up than Peters being rushed.

Well Ben Holmes tanked this season after doing amazing at the same level last year. I gotta imagine not getting called up after posting a 1 ERA last season has to kill your spirits a bit, especially given he's 25 years old now.

Another quality start for Pablo Lopez. Also, Brian Anderson went 3-6 with his 5th HR in AAA. Got to think he gets a look in September.

Between that and them moving him back to SP. They still have the obsession to try to make everyone a SP no matter what. Instead of just drafting SP who have proved they can go 6+innings they draft college closers/part time pitchers and try to make them into that. This year we did it we Hock,Guenther,Braley. All look good for 3 innings then fall apart. It has worked with some but usually it doesn't. Holmes is a Lefty BP arm who can stretch to 3 innings if needed as soon as they realize it he will look better

Cant complain about the move since Quijada looked good but it has to kill 24/25 yr old guys who dominate a league but they promote a 21 yr old instead.

We have had atleast 5 guys retire this year alone after being passed over. Can't really blame them tho-23 in A Ball with a career 3.10 ERA but instead of getting a promotion the FO signs some 27 yr old career minor leaguer.

Stone Garrett was finally heating up and looked like he finally figured it out however he is now out. Yep u got it Strained OBLIQUE-I wonder does our training staff even diagnose guys or do they all just either have Strained Oblique/Torn UCL.

Jared Barnes got a promotion to GBoro from the GCL. Kid can hit and finally was allowed to C again

If Lee can just figure out how to more efficiently steal bases I think he'd be a legit prospect. Guy has been an OBP machine this year.

Marlins minor league transactions from July 29-Aug 4, via Baseball America:

-RHP Max Duval was signed out of the Frontier League. He's 26 and pitching in Greensboro after going 8-2 with a 2.28 ERA with Evansville. He pitched 87 innings, gave up 58 hits, walked 27 and struck out 113.
-3B Bubba Hollins was signed as a NDFA out of St. Bonaventure. He was a 35th round pick of the Tigers back in 2014, but didn't sign. Hollins is in Batavia. Hollins, as has already been stated, is the son of former Phillie Dave Hollins.

-OF Eury Perez was acquired from the Pirates for cash. He has 73 games of major league experience with the Nationals, Yankees, and Braves, and is playing for AAA New Orleans.

Congrats Michael King on possibly the worst start of your career. Biggest concern with him is he has a horrid start every so often. 4 starts where he's allowed 5 ER or more. I expect things to temper a bit when he gets to Jupiter.

Tom Koehler has entered that Nicolino range of 'too good for AAA, not good enough for MLB'. I don't trust him in an MLB rotation anymore but he also shouldn't be in the minors. Plus his trade value is all but dead now so who knows what the team should do with him.

Koehler is a bullpen arm and should be given a chance to compete for a bullpen start. Been that way for about 4 years now. Only the marlins dont see it.
