2) Every draft pick has mechanical issues that will be corrected before the time they get to the majors. That doesnt make him a "project" although you could label literally every draft pick a project. If he becomes anywhere near yelich as a player this is a fantastic pick. That is an enormous if though.

Well it's not me that labeled him that way, the MLB Network analysts did. By far the most criticized pick in the draft so far. But it's the Marlins, so deserving or not, thats what MLB Network will do. Their hate for the Marlins knows no bounds.

Tristan Beck would be awfully nice to add to the SP prospect pool in round 3. Makes too much sense though.

FWIW, all 3 of the Marlins picks so far are in the top 58 of Keith Law's big board:

17. Connor Scott, OF, Plant High School, Tampa, Florida. Scott has been very impressive when healthy, with a combination of plus speed and feel to hit as well as a very good chance to stay in center field. Scott, who plays at the same high school that produced current Astros prospect Kyle Tucker, has been hurt often this spring, but when he has played he has shown that he can run and has enough projection to hit for average and modest power that he projects as an above-average everyday player. His athleticism and better competition this spring have helped him separate himself a little bit from the strong crop of high school outfielders in this draft class, though a late injury that ended his season early didn't help his cause.

42. Will Banfield, C, Brookwood High School, Lawrenceville, Georgia. Banfield had a good chance to go in the first round coming into this season but might have slipped a bit after a disappointing spring that has scouts questioning his hit tool. He's a "power over hit" prospect now, which means he has raw power and can show it when he makes contact, but scouts question whether he'll hit enough to display that power in pro ball with the wood bat. He has good loft in his finish but drops his hands in his load, creating some length to the ball that might cause him issues with contact. As a catcher, he's a solid defender with a plus arm and doesn't project to have to move off the position. He's committed to Vanderbilt but seems likely to go in the top 40-50 picks and sign as a pro.

58. Osiris Johnson, SS, Encinal High School, Alameda, California. When not ruling over the afterworld, Johnson has played shortstop for a city school against some weak competition, so he's raw for his level and probably isn't a shortstop for much longer. He has loose, quick hands, however, and while he might be a two-year rookie ball guy, there's a potential plus-hit tool in here that would play at second or third base.

Osiris Johnson was mentioned at #20 for Minnesota and Cleveland in Comp Rd. We took him in R2 because he wouldn't get past Minn at #59. Kinda a reach however will be 18 ALL year next year.

Banfield at worst is a backup C in 4/5 years,if he learns to hit we have a Starting C. His number is OVER slot however but not by much. GREAT PICK!!

Hearing BPA who will take slot OR Blaze Alexander(Heard his # my be too high) in Rd3. Don't be surprised if we go College Senior C or JC SP in 4th or 5th Rd to save some cash to get back in line with "slot"

I was off by a little. We went College Junior C and D2 SP. Should save a few bucks however

None of us really know enough about these guys to have a strong opinion one way or the other, but from the info that's out there on these guys, I actually like the Marlins approach. I said they should be going after high ceiling players, rather than high floor guys, and that is seemingly what they have done.

I preferred other names over Scott, but many people say he might have the highest upside of any HS bat, so I'm good with that. And if saving money on him and Johnson, allows them to sign a player like Banfield, I'm on board.

Pompey could be something and got 2 more catchers. GCL has Mercado/Banfield/Barstad/Arcaya. Batavia has Barnes/Fortes/Pena

Culbertson can hit 100. We went Senior Arms in Rd 7/8/10 to save some cash for signing Banfield AND Day 3.Remember if u draft a HS guy today and he doesn't sign u lose that pool cash however if u draft a HS guy Day 3 and he doesn't then u don't lose anything. Wouldn't be surprised to see us take 1 or 2 HS guys early on Day 3
