Thought this was funny: Saw today that the Braves had to aggressively promote some of their starters in the minors this year so that all of their prospects had a spot in some sort of rotation on one of their teams for the year. In contrast, the marlins are starting something called Omar Bencomo, a 28 year old, in AA jax tonight.

Also, idk if Michael Mader isnt starting because of the lack of available rotation spots for the braves, but he has been coming out of the bullpen for their AA team to start the year.... He would be one of our top pitching prospects. At least we got Cervanka though!

Scott Copeland is probably gonna get a second major league chance at some point. He's been a consistent sub 3 ERA pitcher for 31 minor league starts now across 3 years. His strikeout rates have been pretty bad though.

Good to see Brian Anderson start well in AA. .310/.394/.877 slash so far (BA/OBP/OPS).

Ryan Newell is a really interesting story in the minors. He's pitched well at every level since his second season in 2013 but has had a ton of trouble staying healthy. Now 25 years old he's still two or three years away from a major leaguer and is already at the "too old to be a prospect" range. Sucks because I feel he was a good arm.

        - - - - - - - - - -

Also Braxton Garrett still hasn't pitched. It's getting a little crazy that we haven't had a chance to see him go yet. I don't know a 2016 draft pick to follow yet.

We have some AAA SP depth with Nicolino,Gonzalez,Worley,Copeland and Fife

Ya Newell always looks good then gets hurt. Doubtful he becomes anything but atleast we are keeping him around the system

Funniest part of the Braxton Garrett story is he will be 20 in August. He isn't a 18 yr old kid,he is an "advanced arm" according to the FO but guess they need those roster spots for 24 yr olds like Marcus Crescentini or Ben Meyer who has been in Greensboro for 3 YEARS!!

We do this tho every year so no surprise-instead of pushing guys we just go with old depth guys. U can follow Corey Bird/Aaron Knapp or JJ Gould-none are great but atleast they are playing

Well u need Bencomo cause Jupiter doesnt have anything to promote HAHA. Bencomo,Tomshaw,Adkins,Mazza all in AA for some reason

Andy Beltre,Ben Holmes,Ryan Newell,Esmerling De La Rosa,CJ Robinson all are ready in Jupiter and Steven Farnworth,Jose Quijada arent far behind

I really dont get the braxton garrett thing at all. If we were to be having success developing pitchers and keeping them healthy doing what we are doing, id give them the benefit of the doubt, but our guys have consistently gotten injured and failed to develop here. over it.

If the Marlins choose to go with another bat at any point there's no doubt den Dekker is the first guy getting that call.

Oh hi Trevor Richards. Thanks for reminding me that you did well in short time in GBoro last year. 2.10 ERA in his 64 minor league innings so far soread across three levels. Please become something.

Michael King now with 13 innings not allowing a run to begin his GBoro career. 12th round pick this past draft. 18 K's to just 2 BB's. Think I found the player to follow.

King looks interesting. Richards would too if he wasnt 23 already and turning 24 in a month.

Only thing about den Dekker is he isn't on the 40 man and we don't need a LHB who can play the OF with Ichiro and DD. Gonna be interesting tho cause Prado is coming off the DL and u cant play in Seattle with 3 bench guys-Jarlin Garcia is probably sent down

Trevor Richards could be something IF they promote him to Jax and he shows same stuff. 24 yr old pitchers in AA aren't bad

King actually looked good at BC too. Has solid size at 6'3 200. Question is will they let him keep starting(with our FO its a likely yes) or keep screwing up his routine and move him between RP/SP.

One thing wish we did was identify a guy as a SP or RP and just let them advance thru the system instead of screwing up routines and everything

I wish we would force guys to be starters on the way up and then move them to relievers later in their development. There should be a priority that everyone is tried as a starter first. If anything it gives them more in game experience even if they are destined for the bullpen regardless.

BTW, Peters left the game early after taking a line drive off his left hand/wrist.

Well that's terrible news. There isn't a pitcher in the system at his level and Peters isn't near top 100 in baseball himself.

Poteet is likely the second most promising pitcher going for the Marlins minors right now. The fact he did well in Gboro last year should bode well for a successful year this season.

Telis should be a .300 hitter all year (less than ten games so no worry about him having no walks yet). Hopefully a good season means he'll have trade value come July. I don't know too many more prospects that can net players needed for a playoff run at that time.

Dalton Wheat ending a four game hitless streak.
